One entry per person. The contest runs from May 25th 2026, to June 17th 2026. The winner will be announced in June 2026.

Contest Rules & Regulations  

The following are the official rules and regulations (the “Official Rules”) governing contests administered by The Alumni Office at Saint Mary’s University (“SMU”) in connection with the Halifax Staycation contest with SMU Alumni Perks and The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites (the “Contest”).  

CONTEST ADMINISTRATION: The Contest is administered by the Alumni Office at Saint Mary’s University. Subject to the eligibility rules in Section 2 below, bentering, entrants agree to comply with and be bound by these Official Rules. By entering the Contest, all entrants consent to the personal information which is contained in their entry submissions being collected by SMU to operate the Contest.  

ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open to:  

Individuals who have completed a credit program, diploma, or certificate at Saint Mary’s University and are recognized as alumni;  

Alumni residing in Nova Scotia;  

Alumni who meet any additional eligibility requirements outlined in the specific contest announcement.  

SMU, Universal Realty Group, and Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites employees are not eligible to enter, unless they are also eligible alumniThe Alumni Office reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to determine eligibility and to disqualify any entrant who does not meet the requirements. The Contest is void where prohibited by law.  

HOW TO ENTER: No purchase is necessary to enter. To participate, eligible entrants must complete the entry requirements outlined in the specific contest announcement, which may include:  

Registering for or logging into SMU Alumni Perks;  

Creating or activating an account on the Alumni Perks platform;  

Completing surveys or engagement activities within the platform;  

Submitting an online entry form.  

Unless otherwise stated, limit of one (1) entry per person per contest period.  

CONTEST PERIOD: The Contest begins and ends on the dates specified in the official contest announcement. Entries must be received by the stated closing date and time to be eligible. The Contest commences on May 252026 and closes on June 172026 at 11:59 pm EST. Entry submissions must be received via registering on the SMU Alumni Perks website or app by 11:59 pm EST on June 17, to be eligible for the Contest.  

PRIZE DETAILS: Prize details, including quantity, will be outlined in the official contest announcement.  

Prizes:  Must be accepted as awarded;  Are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash unless otherwise specified;  May not be substituted except at the discretion of SMU

Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received during the contest period.  

PRIZE DRAW & SELECTION: All eligible entrant names will be entered into an online random draw selector, and the winner will be announced in June 2026. If necessary, should a prize be unclaimed, or should the selected entrant be unwilling, unable or ineligible to win a prize as set out in these Official Rules, the prize will be forfeited and the Alumni Office shall have the right to draw, as a replacement, additional entry submission(s) until a valid winner is chosen. All determinations of the selected entrants and the winners by SMU are final and binding. All matters related to the Contest and the verification of the eligibility of the selected entrants shall be conducted by the Alumni Office, or by persons designated by the Alumni Office in its sole and absolute discretion.  

If a selected entrant:  Cannot be contacted;  Does not respond within the specified timeframe Is found to be ineligible;  Fails to comply with these Official Rules; 

The Alumni Office reserves the right to disqualify that entrant and select an alternate winner. All decisions made by the Alumni Office are final and binding.  

WINNER NOTIFICATION: Selected entrants will be contacted using the contact information provided at entry (email and/or phone) within 48 hours of the draw. If the selected entrant does not respond within one week, the selected entrant may be disqualified, and a new eligible entrant will be selected  

DECLARATION OF WINNERS: The selected entrant will not be declared a winner of the Contest until the Alumni Office has determined that the selected entrant is eligible pursuant to these Official Rules. As required by Canadian law, a selected entrant must correctly answer a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question without assistance before being declared a winner. The Alumni Office must further confirm that the selected entrant has complied with all requirements of these Official Rules and execute any documents required by SMU and/or the Alumni Office. Once the skill-testing question is answered correctly and the verification takes place, the selected entrant will be declared the winner.  

PUBLICITY CONSENT: By accepting the Prize, the winner grants The Alumni Office permission to use their name, image, likeness, and/or statements for promotional purposes related to SMU Alumni Perks and Alumni Office initiatives without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.  

CONTEST MODIFICATION OR CANCELLATION: The Alumni Office reserves the right, without prior notice and at any time, to modifydelayextend, or terminate the Contest, in whole or in part, for any reason, in any way, in its sole discretion, including but not limited to technical issues, fraud, or events beyond its reasonable control (“Force Majeure”), then subject to any government approval which may be required, the Alumni Office shall have the right to modify, suspend, amend, extend, delay, or terminate the Contest.  

PARTICIPATION: Participation in the Contest constitutes an agreement by each participant to comply with these Official Rules.  

DISQUALIFICATION: SMU reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who:  Violates these Official Rules;  Submits incomplete, fraudulent, automated, or duplicated entries;  Attempts to tamper with the entry process or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest.  

SMU reserves the right to seek remedies to the fullest extent permitted by law in the event of deliberate interference. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that they have complied in full with all the conditions and requirements contained in these Official Rules. If any participant or entry submission is found ineligible, or if an eligible entrant has not complied with these Official Rules, in the Alumni Office sole discretion, an alternative winner may be selected.  

ATTENTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR TO UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SMU RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CRIMINAL. 

RELEASE, INDEMNIFICATION, & LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: By entering the Contest, participants release and agrees to hold SMU and its respective directors, officers, employees, and agents harmless from and against any and all costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, to participation in the Contest, any Contest related activity, or from acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize, or participation in any prize related activity and agrees to full indemnify SMU and its respective directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims on the part of any third party or parties related in any way and for any reason to the Contest or the prize including, without limitation, death and personal or property damage or injury.  

SMU assumes no responsibility or liability for:  Lost, late, incomplete, incorrect, damaged, illegible, mutilated, spoiled, destroyed, stolen, misplaces, or misdirected entries;  Technical failures of any kind;  Unauthorized access to entry materials;  Any injury or damage related to participation.  

GOVERNING LAW: The Contest is governed by and construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the applicable federal laws of Canada. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Nova Scotia. These are the Official Rules (the “Official Rules”). Contest rules are subject to change without notice in order to comply with any applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws or the policy of any other entity having jurisdiction over SMU.   

CONSTRUCTION: The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Official Rules shall otherwise remain in effect and be constructed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained in these Official Rules. Headings and captions are used in these Official Rules solely for ease of reference and shall not be deemed to affect in any manner the meaning or intent of these Official Rules or any provision hereof. These Official Rules cannot be modified or amended in any way except in writing by a duly authorized representative of SMU  

PRIVACY: The Alumni Office collects information on behalf of SMU. Any information submitted by an individual to the Alumni Office pursuant to the Contest and otherwise, including through an associated website or via email, may be used to update that individual’s record. Information gathered for the above purposes will be protected and used in compliance with Nova Scotia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Individuals who submit information to The Alumni Office or SMU Alumni Perks in participation in the Contest acknowledge the above collection of their personal information for these purposes.
